Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is treatment used to repair and save a tooth that has been infected due to a deep cavity or cracked tooth. The treatment starts by make the patient comfortable in the chair.  If the patient is nervous, Nitrous Oxide may be administered to help with the anxiety.  The patient is numbed up.  The treatment does not start until the patient is completely numb.

Dr. Budhani starts by removing top part of the tooth. If the patient feels any pain, all they have to do is raise their left hand.  The pulp of the tooth is carefully cleaned out, and irrigated.

What are the signs that a root canal is needed?

  • Severe tooth pain while chewing
  • Your tooth pain wakes you up at night
  • Teeth that are highly sensitive to hot or cold, with the sensitivity lingering for some time.
  • Discoloration or darkening of the tooth
  • Swollen gums in the area of the infected tooth

After the root canal has been performed, the tooth is typically covered with a crown.

Root canal therapy has a high rate of success and many teeth undergoing the procedure can be saved to last a lifetime.
